STORAGE

When you can't move directly into your new home, sometimes you must put your things into storage, not all movers can provide storage for your goods, so be sure your mover has a licensed storage facility. The mover must write the warehouse location where your goods will be stored on your estimate. The mover will inventory all items that you put into storage and issue a warehouse receipt. If there are some items that you will need before the others, ask the estimator to write it on your estimate and advise the mover to create a separate inventory. The mover will hold all items for you indefinably, (as long as you pay your monthly storage bill) until you are ready to have your shipment delivered from storage. Mover's storage is regulated and the mover's liability remains the same as you requested on the order for service and bill of lading until you accept delivery provided that you continued using the same mover within NJ. Tell the mover how long you anticipate needing storage because different rules, rates and insurance apply to long term or short term storage (also known as S.I.T.). If you move out of NJ interstate rules will apply to your shipment, check with your mover to assure continuous coverage.

SELF-STORAGE

Self-storage is not regulated so you must make your own arrangements for this type of storage. Some movers do not offer storage but they will move your items into self storage, but you must make the arrangements. We only recommend this type of storage for situations where you need access to the items in storage at off hours, nights, Sundays or Holidays. You must provide blankets or substitutes for protecting furniture that will be stacked in the unit. Advise your mover of any time restrictions of the storage facility, what floor it is on, etc. Some units are not accessible by tractor-trailer; ask the self storage agent if there may be a problem with large trucks. These types of delays could increase the cost of your move, so be sure to advise your mover. You must stay at the storage unit until the movers are finished to sign for the services and lock the unit. Since this is your final destination, movers are not responsible for this type of storage after delivery into the storage unit.

GOOD ADVICE: There are some decisions in life that are more important than money. Moving all of your possessions are one of those decisions. Use a reputable mover. Call up the mover and make an appointment for him to come to your home for an in-house estimate rather than leaving it to chance.
