Interior Designer — Boston MA
Safdie Architects is seeking an experienced interior designer with at least 7 to 10 years of design-focused experience for its international practice.
Headquartered in Somerville MA, with offices in Toronto, Jerusalem, Singapore, and Shanghai to support ongoing projects, Safdie Architects is engaged in diverse projects in terms of both building type and geographic location. Projects under construction and recently completed include libraries, museums, performing arts centers, cultural centers, campus master plans, residential, and mixed-use developments in such diverse places as Singapore, China, India, Bangladesh, Jerusalem, Toronto, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Missouri, and Arkansas.
At Safdie Architects, interior designers are part of a highly creative, multi-disciplinary environment focused on design excellence. Interior designers work on programmatically complex public and private projects and are involved with projects from design through construction. They work in collaboration with the firm’s Principals and design architects to develop design concepts and ideas and achieve project goals related to project quality and process.
Interior designers are involved with programming, space planning, interior detailing, designing and detailing custom furniture, and finish selections. They conduct research on new materials, prepare and coordinate contract documents, and source high-end FF&E and finishes on large-scale projects.
Like design architects, interior designers function as design advocates during the design and delivery process. Candidates for the interior designer position should be able to lead and work with teams of junior designers, have demonstrated experience developing and maintaining communication with architects and consultants, and have a strong knowledge of design and detailing for large-scale, high-end projects. In addition, they should have a working knowledge of techniques, products, and materials used in high-end institutional, hospitality, and retail environments.
In addition to an aptitude for design and problem-solving, candidates must be highly motivated, have the ability to work effectively in an intense, collaborative team environment, and possess a willingness to assume both project-wide and office-related responsibility.
All applicants must have the authorization to work within the United States and the ability to travel outside the U.S. Prior experience working in China and/or proficiency in Mandarin is preferred but not required.
Qualified candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, and work sample in PDF format to msa@talentstar.com
